do you want the long story or the short story? let's go with the long story.
it's always a rare treat when a true antique starburst band from the US comes along and this one is especially wonderful because it isn't a teeny tiny size and structurally it doesn't show much wear.
unbelievably, it was recently rescued from a scrap pile, but because of its time in the scrap pile one of the original rose cut garnet cabochons had picked up some recent larger chips.
once the ring it made its way to us we took on the project of finding stones that would fit perfectly in the side settings on either side of the opal and eventually these natural turquoise cabochons appeared. luckily, our jeweler uses a technique that can preserve the time-earned patina.
now it's even more cheerful than it was with garnet stones
solid 10k rosy yellow gold, unmarked for karat, hallmarked for the maker, which is typical for true victorian gold pieces

very often these true antique bands were worn daily and have lost their structural integrity to time-earned wear and friction, which result in the gold being brittle. this piece looks like it was stored more than it was worn, which has resulted in plenty of surface scratches, dents and dings, surface dulling throughout the gold, but it's also crisp along every 90 degree angle.
new turquoise stones, original opal stone (may show minor surface wear under magnification)
